Stamping In Scrapbooks

Beginner's Tips...

There are lots of ways to use stamps in your scrapbooks. This list should give you a few ideas to get started. As always, you'll want to make sure you choose an acid-free ink. Pigment inks work well, but many acid-free dye-based inks are now waterproof and long lasting for archival quality. Dye inks are easier to clean and dry more quickly. VersaMark is a great investment to create many different looks with chalk or alone as watermarked images.

Backgrounds

You can use many techniques to customize your background papers. You may want to choose specific textured or lined stamps designed for backgrounds--you can get a variety of use out of these images in many different colors. Or simply choose your favorite image and stamp randomly on a sheet of solid cardstock. To create a more random-looking image, try turning the stamp slightly after each stamp, and stamp over the edge of the cardstock.

Antiquing is a terrific technique to add to background paper, die cuts, and other memorabilia before putting it into your scrapbook. You only need a sponge and four colors of ink. You can see the step-by-step technique below, and click here for full instructions.

Page Embellishments

As you can see in the following pictures, you can create amazing, one-of-a-kind page embellishments for scrapbook pages.

These serendipity squares use designs stamped on different paper in metallic ink, and then are torn in random patterns for more variety. Adding Stickles glitter glue and textured fiber adds dimension and interest.

In this example, I used the Medallions stamp set to create a colorful border. (Click the image to enlarge.) After stamping the images with black ink, I carefully used brush-tipped markers to color in the images, and then added Stickles glitter glue in a variety of colors to add dimension.

Here, I stamped several themed stamps on vellum, embossed them in blue, and colored them in with Radiant Pearls. This adds a softness and personalization of your pages that is just your own.
