Retiform Stamping Technique

Supplies

  • Tropical paper pack
  • White cardstock
  • Tropical Blue and Sunset TAC™ dye ink pads (Rain Dance and Cotton Blossom)
  • Claret Palette Hybrid ink pad (Boudoir Blush and Noir)
  • Summer Sketches stamp set (The Heart Sees)
  • Well Defined Backgrounds stamp set
  • Gold leafing pen
  • Hydrasponge
  • Post-it Notes

Instructions

  1. Trim cardstock as follows:
    blue: 8.5" x 5.5" (fold in half)
    pink: 4" x 5.25"
    white: 3.75" x 5"

  2. Arrange the Post-It notes on the white cardstock to mask off the sides of the cards. Don't make it too symmetric or even. Starting with Tropical Blue, lightly sponge entire surface. Using Sunset, sponge the edges of the masked panel. With Claret, sponge just the outer edges of the masked panel. Stamp focal image into center of the masked panel. Remove Post-Its.
  3. Mask off the stamped section with Post-Its and repeat the above process until the card is full.
  4. I outlined the complete white panel with a gold leafing pen, and adhered this to the pink cardstock. The pink cardstock is then glued to the blue card.

Tips:

  • For best results, try to keep the darkest masked portions on the bottom and left of the panel.
  • For variation, try to alternate main colors, images and orientation between masked areas.
  • You can also apply the ink pad directly to the surface of the masked paper, though you may need to fill in the area directly next to the Post-Its to avoid a halo.
  • Experiment with overlapping already stamped areas.
  • Use complimentary colors or monochromatic colors for fun results.
