Cropping Tools
Reasonably priced at $20.95, this trimmer makes a world of difference when you scrap. When trimming 12x12 down to mats or to a 9x9 album size, being able to cut in a straight line will save lots of aggravation. Blade refills (two cutting, one scoring) are only $6.95.
Scissors
I recommend that everyone have a pair of sharp, comfortable scissors.
Kai makes several pairs I love: the 4" scissors, for example. These are
great for detailed objects (like paper piecing)! Also, for cutting through rubber stamps like butter, I also love the 6" and 7-1/2" pairs! It's a little pricey for an up-front investment, but you'll never regret it.
If you're looking for decorative edgers, I'd recommend
you invest in a pair of deckle edge scissors. This pattern is easy
to line up (since it's random) and makes your paper look torn, which will also keep it from looking to dated or amateurish.
Oval and Shape Cutters
The best shape cutter I have used is the versatile Coluzzle
cutting system. From rectangles to ovals to alphabets, this
cutting system is inexpensive and easy to use. You can even make
tags,
envelopes and purses!
Just make sure you remove the clear plastic from both sides before
your first use.
Every scrapbooker needs a corner rounder.
It gives you the polished professional look to your photos with
a simple punch. Other types of corner slot punches and decorative
corner punches are also very practical. My favorite is the Southwest
corner punch, through which you can easily string wire, cord or
fine fibers. (I use the decorative corners and slots on the photo
mats, not the photos themselves, for a cleaner look.)
Be careful when investing in punches.
There are a lot of fun designs out there, but only a few that are
very practical. I recommend
several sizes of squares, circles and tags. Plus, I'd highly recommend the Mini File Tab, Mini Square Tab and Mini Circle Tab punches.
Personal Die Cut Machines
If you have the extra money to invest, I highly recommend the
Big Shot™ personal die cutter. It's
portable and easy to store, and easy to use. You can punch through
several sheets of cardstock,
fabric, foam and more. It's an essential if you use a lot of die cuts and are
always running to the store
for matching colors.
